The ES-660™ is designed for scanning sewer pipe from 6 to 60 inches in diameter. Using Electro Scan’s proprietary technology, variations of electricity flowing through the pipe wall, associated with distance measurements, are automatically transmitted to Electro Scan’s Smartphone application to record and display defect locations and their relative size.
Infiltration of groundwater into sewers, caused by defects in the pipe, can result in sewer surcharges and SSO. The elimination of these problems can considerably decrease the operating costs and capital expenditures of maintaining a municipal sewer system. Recently, the evaluation of sewer laterals has becom a prime focus in the fight to eliminate sources of infiltration/exfiltration. This has occurred because, dispite great effort to detect and repair sewer mains using legacy inspection and evaluation tools and methodologies, infiltration has not been eliminated from sewer systems. However, Electro Scan is now available to accurately and cost effectively locate and measure all defects that cause leaks in sewer mains, therefore requiring serious re-thinking and re-direction of sanitary sewer evaluation survey conclusions.
As public officials are increasingly becoming aware of the shortcomings of visual observations to adequately quantify and prioritize critical sewers, Electro Scan is now becoming accepted as an essential method of sewer evaluation, triage, and post rehabilitation assessment.
Using Electro Scan, municipal sewer utilities and sewer contractors can determine accurate locations, measurement, and characterization of potential pipe leak defects — essential for any cost-effective pipe repair, renewal, or replacement project.
Operation Using Funnel Plug and Jet Truck
1. Jet hose from downstream to upstream MH
2. Position and connect the surface electrode (ground stake)
3. Pull end of hose from MH and unscrew jet
4. Attach funnel plug to jet hose.
5. Attach probe to funnel plug
6. Connect the earth cable to the surface electrode
7. Lower funnel plug and probe into the MH
8. Fill sewer to a few inches above the top of the pipe. Add water to the pipe through the jet hose if required.
9. Start the Electro Scan recorder
10. Use the jet hose to pull funnel plug and probe through pipe at approximately 1 ft every 2 seconds. (30ft/minute) to the downstream MH.
11. Stop the Electro Scan recorder
