The ES-38™ is designed for scanning laterals from 3 to 8 inches in diameter. Using Electro Scan’s proprietary technology, variations of electricity flowing through the pipe wall, associated with distance measurements, are automatically transmitted to Electro Scan’s Smartphone application to record and display defect locations and their relative size.
While electricity does not pass through non-metallic pipe walls, it will pass through any defect that can cause water leaks.
Key features of the ES-38™, include:
1. A Push Rod – Only need access to a single clean out
2. One-Man Operation – Represents a straight forward operation
3. Advanced Analytics – No interpretation or judgment required by the operator
4. Minimal Set-up & Operation – Takes about 30 minutes to scan a 100 feet of lateral
5. Automated Reporting – Either displays on Electro Scan’s Smartphone or prints to Electro Scan’s ruggedized printer
6. Transmits data to Electro Scan’s Critical Sewers™ cloud computing application for up to the minute access, analysis, and reporting.
The ES-38™ is used for scanning sewer laterals, from a clean out, without the need to access the lateral from the main line. This is achieved by attaching a small probe with diameter 50mm (2 in) and length 150mm (6in) to a push rod.
Part of every purchase of an ES-Probe Reel™, is Electro Scan’s ES-Accessory Pack™, including items to facilitate the recommended electrical grounding of the Electro Scan probe and to fill the sewer lateral with water.
Also included with all purchases of the ES-38™ is Electro Scan’s CloudConnect Smartphone application, for either your Apple iPhone or Android smartphone, available at no charge. The app stores the electro scan and location information and displays a graph from which defects can be identified. The app can email the scan and generate a printout on a ruggedized field printer. The printer is an optional accessory for the ES-38™ and ES-660™.

Probe Push Rod
The core component of the ES-38™ is the ES-Probe Reel™ that has an electric Probe attached to a Push Rod. The ES-Probe Reel™ also includes Electro Scan’s proprietary solid state Probe Module and Distance Module, equipped with proprietary printed circuit boards (PCBs), designed exclusively by Electro Scan Inc. The ES-Probe Probe Reel™ captures electricity variation and distance data from the Electro Scan probe as it is pushed through the sewer lateral.

Air Push Rod
Water is used to electrically connect the probe to the pipe wall. To scan the entire length of a lateral it must be filled with water. Accomplished in a variety of ways, Electro Scan offers its the ES-Air Push Rod™ that allows an operator to block one end of the sewer lateral so that the lateral can be filled with water while carrying out the electro scan with the ES-Probe Reel.

Accessory Pack
Included with every purchase of an ES-Probe Reel, is Electro Scan’s ES-Accessory Pack™, including items to facilitate the recommended electrical grounding of the Electro Scan probe and to fill the sewer lateral with water.

Field Reporting
Included with every purchase of the ES-38™ is the Smartphone application, for either your Apple iPhone or Android smartphone available at no charge. Displaying a graph of all pipe defects, the Smartphone has the option of creating a hardcopy printout on a ruggedized field printer, available as an option to the ES-38™ and ES-660™.

Optional Equipment

1. Insert Air Push Rod
Use the air push rod to position the plug at the end of the pipe. It is important that the plug be within 2ft of the connection to the main in order to obtain a complete reading of the pipe.
2. Insert Probe
Push the probe into the pipe to the 2ft mark before inserting the diffuser and flooding the pipe.

3. Insert Diffuser
The diffuser should be positioned to serve both to flood the pipe and, once filled, drip the Electro Scan salt solution, prefereably during the flooding phase, to insure that a good quality signal is transmitted.
4. Inflate Air Push Rod
When positioned properly within 2ft of the main, inflate the plug to 15psi to seal the pipe so that it can be flooded. The pipe should be totally flooded because the ES-38 must be fully submerged for the entire length of the pipe while recording the scan.
5. Fill Pipe with Water and Salt Solution
When connected to a water hose, the salt solution poured in the top is automatically infused. You may need to refill the diffuser with salt solution periodically during the scan.
6. Position Ground Stake
The electrical connection from the probe is completed through an earth ground. You may need to pour a pint or two of salt solution around the stake to insure a good connection.
7. Connect Ground Reel
Connect the ground stake to the probe reel to complete the connection.
8. Turn ‘ON’ Probe Module
9. Turn ‘ON’ Distance Module
10. Push Probe to Plug, then Press Record on Smartphone, then Pull Plug to Automatically Record Readings on Smartphone
